No matter where your internet web servers are located you need to make provision for a secure connection to the internet.
In simple terms the physical location and the installation of the web servers, firewalls and network structure should do three things:
- Protect the physical security of your internet based service by preventing unauthorised access to the equipment.
- Provide protection for the web server, your host computer systems and in-house networks from outside interference through the internet by controlling and limiting the types of messages that can be exchanged with external computer systems.
- Offer intrusion detection monitoring of internet connectivity and server activity.
This will involve the establishment of security firewalls and the programming and configuration of network routers associated with the system.
