Swift Call has been active in the development of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) services for several years and has continued to stay abreast of developments in this area as the technology improves and costs come down.
In particular, Swift Call has been working with Aculab to develop solutions using its low-cost, high-reliablity ASR Software platform. The Aculab ASR elements and our application software will allow you to quickly, and cheaply, develop and deploy speech-enabled applications.
Speech applications are not like conventional IVR using touchtone phones. ASR technology is very reliable but applications need to be carefully crafted and appropriate for the business.
There are many applications where only speech will work. Typically these will include instances where information other than numeric data input is needed or there are other application-specific needs. Such areas include speaker identification and authentication, and mobile users.
Mobile access makes speech recognition more compelling.
The new opportunities opened up by speech recognition can take telephone based services to new levels especially with the move to a more mobile customer base. A speech application is equally accessible to mobile users as it is to those using phones at work or home with the benefits of:
- Useability. The user experience is like any normal telephone conversation. It is not restricted by the limitations of small mobile handset screens and keypads. Applications are far easier to use than with competing mobile technologies like WAP, which break interactions into a series of small slow-loading pages.
- Hands Free Operation. Current laws require
hands free use of mobile phones while driving - and plain
commonsense should suggest that trying to use a keypad while
in motion is a risky proposition.
